Janet Clukie is an award-winning artist in her twenties based in North Georgia. Growing up immersed in farm life, she developed a profound love for nature and the great outdoors. Her childhood was filled with riding horses, playing in the dirt, and enjoying the company of her dogs. Janet was always creative, exploring various outlets such as music, photography, and painting. She seemed to always be doodling; though when she was not drawing, she often explored nature and spent a great deal of time outdoors
Her artwork embodies a deep passion for nature, wildlife, and the western lifestyle. Janet is dedicated to capturing the essence, mood, and feeling of a moment, striving to transform the inspiration that captivates her into something greater with each brushstroke. Through her paintings, she aims to convey not just a moment but a rich, engaging experience that visually captivates viewers.
In & out of the studio
Janet has transformed a part of her home into a functional studio, where her pup joins in on the creative fun. She enjoys listening to a variety of music genres to keep things interesting, saying, “Cause why not?” Have to change it up a bit as she mentions.
Whenever possible, Janet travels to gather her own reference material, enjoying in the beauty nature offers. If She is able she also likes to set up her plein air equipment to capture a bit of the scene while also gathering some color notes. She brings that inspiration back to her studio, incorporating it into new pieces. Before beginning a painting, she typically studies value patterns, makes sketches and color studies to achieve the desired feel. She then prepares her canvas and sets out to accomplish her goals for that particular work. Often, there's more prep work and behind-the-scenes activity involved for a single painting.
Outside of her studio and creative pursuits, Janet cherishes spending quality time with family and loved ones as much as possible. Additionally, she enjoys photography and taking her old film camera out when the mood strikes! Janet mentions there's always something to explore or admire; you just have to keep your eyes open.
